I had a chat with Noel Tan, that one-man, baby-saving guardian angel that runs Sanctuary House. When Yi-Hui and I went to their office, we were quite surprised by how small their operation is. Their office is small, and devoid of any luxury and Noel pretty much runs all of Sanctuary House.
It’s hard to imagine that this struggling outfit has already helped 150 babies. It’s harder to imagine how they are going to cope now that there is a growing need for their services.
I was impressed and deeply moved by how committed Noel is to helping these babies and children. I was also deeply saddened by some of the stories he told me during this interview.
If you think all babies in Singapore have a happy and healthy life then think again. Noel showed us a segment of under-priviledged and at-risk babies that they don’t tell you about in Social Studies class.
